Alicia Vaichunas releases a 10-point plan to stop illegal dumping, expand pickups, hire more DSNY workers, and keep District 30 clean and safe.

Maspeth, NY — City Council candidate Alicia Vaichunas today announced her 10-Point Plan for Sanitation & Clean Streets, a practical roadmap to tackle illegal dumping, improve street cleanliness, and expand sanitation services across District 30.

Alicia Vaichunas’ 10-Point Plan:

  1. Increase litter-basket pickup on major corridors like Fresh Pond Rd, Myrtle Ave, Grand Ave, Metropolitan Ave, and more.
  2. Expand illegal-dumping cameras at chronic hotspots to identify and fine offenders.
  3. Provide free, lidded waste bins to every homeowner to end loose bags on sidewalks.
  4. Hire more sanitation workers to boost collection, broom service, and reliability.
  5. Toughen enforcement against illegal dumping with higher penalties and targeted sweeps.
  6. Expand street-cleaning service frequency and coverage in every neighborhood.
  7. Strengthen recycling and composting through accessible programs and community outreach.
  8. Close enforcement gaps so sidewalks and storefronts are maintained per sanitation code.
  9. Increase funding for graffiti removal with community partnerships for rapid response.
  10. Boost public outreach on proper set-out, bulk items, and litter reduction.

“Nothing impacts quality of life more than the cleanliness of our streets,” said Vaichunas. “Overflowing litter baskets, illegal dumping, and uncollected trash make our neighborhoods feel neglected. It’s time for a real plan to fix this. Our communities deserve cleaner streets, and that starts with real investment in sanitation. My plan puts resources, staffing, and enforcement where they’re needed most so District 30 stays clean.”

Alicia is currently endorsed by Council Member Bob Holden (D-Queens), former Governor George Pataki, mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa, Minority Leader Joann Ariola, Minority Whip Vickie Paladino, Council Member Kristy Marmorato, Council Member David Carr, Council Member Frank Morano, the Queens Republican and Queens Conservative Parties, the NYS Organization of Public Service Retirees, the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA), the Corrections’ Benevolent Association (COBA), the District Council of Carpenters’, the NYS Supreme Court Officers Association, the Voters for Animal Rights (VFAR) and the Parent Party.
